This fall, our competitive BLACK & BLUE Traveling program teams will participate in a new Southern Minnesota Soccer League (SMSL). Many SE MN clubs have considered forming this league for a couple years due to the declining participation by Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) teams. The new league will be run by the clubs, which provides flexibility that was not possible under MYSA.
Here are a few key points:
The U9 and U10 teams are focused on development, and will participate in 3 jamboree style mini-tournaments. They're also permitted to schedule separate scrimmages with surrounding clubs.
With this new league, the U11 and U12 age groups will be combined into a U12 group, while U13 and U14 will play as U14. With this comes the challenge of moving kids to create teams. It's important to remember all other clubs in the league are in the same situation. We're working hard to ensure we provide the kids with the best possible experience.
The start of season for traveling will be August 30th and run to October 10.
This change will have no impact on the Recreation program.
