ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT

All BYSA athletes are expected to promote and adhere to the following:

As an athlete, I will

  • encourage and support my teammates.
  • learn the rules of the game.
  • do my best.
  • listen to my coach and communicate my needs and goals.
  • show respect for officials and accept their decisions.
  • avoid unsportsmanlike gestures or language.
  • treat the competition as a game, not a war.
  • have fun and feel good about my effort.
  • display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.

Prohibited athlete behavior

  • BYSA athletes shall not engage in racial, religious, or sexual harassment or violence.
  • Before, during, or after any USSSA or SMSL sponsored or sanctioned activity, an athlete shall not:
    • engage in violent behavior.
    • engage in taunting or showboating.
    • vandalize public or private property.
    • use inappropriate language.
  • During a soccer season, regardless of quantity, an athlete shall not:
    • use a beverage containing alcohol; or
    • use or consume, have in possession, buy, sell, or give away any other controlled substance.
