Recreation Program - Overview

The Recreational program is designed for players that are just beginning their journey in soccer. We accept all levels in technical and tactical abilities with hopes of them improving those skills throughout their participation in this program. Our aim for the Recreational program is to provide players with a fun and inviting experience while learning the game of soccer.

All matches occur in Byron with other BYSA teams.  Games are not scheduled with other clubs.  The BYSA Recreation Program understands there are multiple activities with our community.  Should your child be involved in more than one activity which results in missed soccer practices, your child will not be penalized.

Girls and Boys Teams alternate year by year to accommodate those families with religious needs.

  • 2024 Spring & Fall:  Girls are on Tuesday/Thursday, Boys are on Monday/Wednesday
  • 2025 Spring & Fall:  Girls are on Monday/Wednesday, Boys are on Tuesday/Thursday
  • 2026 Spring & Fall:  Girls are on Tuesday/Thursday, Boys are on Monday/Wednesday

The Recreation Teams are coached by parent or community member volunteers.  The sooner volunteers register to coach, the faster we can finalize team rosters and release schedules.

We are not looking for experts in the sport of soccer.  We are looking for volunteers that are willing to give their time and provide a positive environment. Training is provided through the means of our Coaches Corner and lesson plans, communication with the Director of Coaching, and other drill ideas.

Who coaches Rec League?

Our coaches are all parent volunteers.  No previous soccer experience is required for coaching Rec League, especially at the youngest ages.  We provide training for our coaches, so all you need is a willingness to jump in and help out with our young players!

Do coaches need a background check?

Our coaches and assistant coaches are all required to complete three pre-requisites.  (1) Background check (2) Concussion training and (3) SafeSport training.  We realize that this takes some of your time, but we are required by state and federal law to have our volunteers complete these requirements.  We highly recommend that each team have at least one coach and one assistant that has completed all three requirements.  At least one adult who has completed all three requirements must be present at every practice and game.

Do you honor special requests (team placement, practice times, etc.)?

Unfortunately, we cannot consider special requests.  While we are very pleased that our Rec program is growing, the increased size has made it impossible to juggle the number of special requests we receive each season.  Rec League teams are formed by BYSA, and we make every effort to keep the teams fair and balanced.

Special note regarding make-up games

Occasionally games must be cancelled due to inclement weather.  Please be advised that we may not have referees available at make-up games because it is difficult to find coverage.

Contact information

Please note that your basic contact information (phone number and email address) will be shared with your coach.  The coach will only use this information to share with the team or to contact you in case of an emergency.
