Who can play?
Recreation teams are organized by BYSA and include players from Pre-K through 5th grade. Pre-K includes any child that is at least 4 years old prior to the first practice. Practices for all teams, and most games for Pre-K through 2nd grade occur during the week, while games for 3rd through 5th graders generally take place on Saturdays. All schedules are based on the number of teams, along with coach and field availability. Pre-K and kindergarten teams are co-ed, while 3rd through 5th grade are based on gender.
All matches occur in Byron with other BYSA teams. Games are not scheduled with other clubs. The number of teams per grade level is determined solely by the number of registrants.
Pre-K through 2nd grade will practice 1 day per week, while 3rd grade through 5th grade will have 2 practices each week. All ages play 1 game each week. Seasons are 6 weeks long.

When does the season start and end?
The 2024 Spring Rec season will run from early May through mid-June. All practices and games are held at the Byron Soccer Complex.
How much does it cost?
The cost of registration for 2024 Spring Recreational League is $75.
What is your refund policy?
It is the policy of BYSA to retain all registration fees for any player withdrawing from the association after team assignments have been made. In the unlikely event of a full season cancelation, all but $15 will be refunded. This amount covers fixed costs associated with registration.
Who coaches Rec League?
Our coaches are all parent volunteers. No previous soccer experience is required for coaching Rec League, especially at the youngest ages. We provide training for our coaches, so all you need is a willingness to jump in and help out with our young players!
Do coaches need a background check?
Our coaches and assistant coaches are all required to complete three pre-requisites. (1) Background check (2) Concussion training and (3) SafeSport training. We realize that this takes some of your time, but we are required by state and federal law to have our volunteers complete these requirements. We highly recommend that each team have at least one coach and one assistant that has completed all three requirements. At least one adult who has completed all three requirements must be present at every practice and game.
Do you honor special requests (team placement, practice times, etc.)?
Unfortunately, we cannot consider special requests. While we are very pleased that our Rec program is growing, the increased size has made it impossible to juggle the number of special requests we receive each season. Rec League teams are formed by BYSA, and we make every effort to keep the teams fair and balanced.
Special note regarding make-up games
Occasionally games must be cancelled due to inclement weather. Please be advised that we may not have referees available at make-up games because it is difficult to find coverage.
Contact information
Please note that your basic contact information (phone number and email address) will be shared with your coach. The coach will only use this information to share with the team or to contact you in case of an emergency.
