This page contains the most frequently asked questions we get from parents.
Who can play?
BYSA REC league includes Pre-K through 4th grade. Pre-K represents any child that is 4 years old prior to the first practice. We typically structure teams as follows:
Please note that these team combinations may change slightly depending on the number of registrations we receive.
Why no 5th and 6th graders?
We have recently seen low registration numbers in the 5th-6th grade age group. Many of our players choose to switch to our Traveling League by the time they reach this age. We feel it is important to only offer our program to age groups where we can provide a meaningful experience to our players. If you have a 5th or 6th grader that would like to continue with Rec soccer, there are other clubs in the area (like RYSA) that still form Rec teams for these ages.
When is the registration deadline?
REC registration deadlines are communicated to club members via email, posted on the Home page of our website, and communicated through our Facebook page.
When does the season start and end?
Our Spring REC season generally begins in late April and runs through mid-June. The Spring season consists of two weekday practices and 8 games held at the Byron Soccer Complex.
Our Fall REC season generally begins in late August and runs through early October. The Fall season consists of two weekday practices and 6 games held at the Byron Soccer Complex.
More detailed dates for each season are included in the FAQ on the Welcome page of our online registration form.
When will my team practice?
Team practice schedules are set by our volunteer coaches. After registration closes and teams are formed, your coach will contact you with your practice schedule.
How much does it cost?
The cost for Spring 2018 will be $70.00.
What is your refund policy?
It is the policy of BYSA to retain all registration fees for any player withdrawing from the association after team assignments have been made.
Do you honor team placement requests?
We will consider requests regarding team placement on an individual basis. We do understand that getting kids to practice can be a challenge for some families and that these requests can help keep kids involved in our program. Rec league teams are formed by the BYSA, and we make every effort to keep the teams fair and balanced.
Special note regarding make-up games
Occasionally games must be cancelled due to inclement weather. Please be advised that we may not have referees available at make-up games because it is difficult to find coverage.
